Manage license gets checked out w/ Simulate users. Help?

This has become an annoying problem that has escalated recently w/ more 3D going on in our office.

We have 3 Navis Simulate seats, and 1 Navis Manage seats. We have several users obviously, and we all use simulate and coordinate when someone needs to clash, they get Manage. The problem is, for some reason it will keep a Manage license checked out for someone using Simulate.

I go and physically look and confirm the users, there will be two users with Simulate open. Then I will go to the server and open LMtools and do a server status, and it will show one Simulate, and one Manage open instead of two Simulates.

The end result being of course that we're effectively shut out of Manage at times. Help?

Yeah the rollover won't give up a license either when one of the others become available.  If you have specific users that need Manage, you might consider using an adskflex.opt file to control the product usage or who the cascade rolls to.

wtf, really? This is really the way this is handled?  We ALL need access to Manage. We ALL need access to Simulate, what am I supposed to do, run down to the server room and edit an .OPT file every time someone leaves one product for another? This should all be automatically handled, they are two different products.

I have two different products, that both cost literally thousands of dollars, and Autodesk is basically saying "that's the breaks" when I'm shut out of one (not to mention the more expensive one) because they let the licenses for two different products overlap?

Total BS. I have enough I'm dealing w/ right now, and I have to stop and figure out how we can use a product we paid for.

I understand your frustation.  When license cascading works, it is actually one of the best features offered in Autodesk licensing.  You just happen to have fallen into one of those grey areas where it rolls over when it shouldn't.  It's resolveable and all will be fine.  Good luck!
