We have a title block drawing we use as an xref in our project. Somehow the
drawing is locked but nobody has it open on their system anymore. All the
CAD stations are configured to have xrefs "enabled with copy".

The locked drawing is kept on the server and since it is locked we cannot
make changes to it or even rename or delete it from windows explorer.
Rebooting the server would cause all kinds of hardship over here right now.
Please, someone tell me, how can we get this file unlocked?

Larry, is your server running Win NT? If so, you (or your administrator) should be able to go to
Control Panel -> Server and see who has the file open and/or locked. Depending on how many users are
on the network, you would be amazed at how often a file remains "open" even though all the users
*swear* they are not accessing it.

I agree with R.K. - If you are using Novell Netware there is also a way for
the Administrator to see who has the file open. Then, sometimes even if that
person has shut down His/Her AutoCAD program, it is still necessary to
re-boot that person's computer in order to unlock the file. I've run into
this before on our network of 55+ AutoCAD workstations.

If you have administrator rights to the server with the file in question
simply use the old Winfile manager instead of the Explorer and if you look
the properties of the file in question you will see who has it. Someone
showed me this clever trick about 2 months ago.
