License was not obtained Tried Maya 2012, error 20

It seems that other people got this message about a license error when starting maya 2012:

License was not obtained

Tried Maya 2012 (657D1 2012.0.0.F), error 20

License method:

environment variable MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD='standalone'

Product choice:

environment variable MAYA_LICENSE='unlimited'

License file override:

environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set

the solutions in many threads are referred to win os, but I run maya 2012 in a MacBookPro6,2 with Mac OSX 10.6.8

Thanks in advance for any help,

best

Sergio

Hi @jose.garcia

Have you tried all the troubleshooting steps outlined in @jessica.t's post above?

Hey, I am having the same trouble with Maya 2016. Tried all the steps above. When I try to solve the "error 20" thing Terminal says:

Oscars-Mac-Pro:~ Oscar$ adlmreg –u S <657H1> 2015.0.0.F

-bash: 657H1: No such file or directory

Oscars-Mac-Pro:~ Oscar$ adlmreg –u N <657H1> 2016.0.0.F

-bash: 657H1: No such file or directory

I have downloaded the latest service pack "Autodesk_Maya_2016_SP3_EN_JP_ZH_Mac_OSX"

I am running OS X 10.10.5 on a 2012 12-core tower mac

(EDIT: I accidentally put "2015" in one of the command lines, but I get the same result with "2016":

Oscars-Mac-Pro:~ Oscar$ adlmreg –u S <657H1> 2016.0.0.F
-bash: 657H1: No such file or directory")

Hello @Anonymous,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue installing your software, because of error 20.

Try conducting these steps:

  1. On your computer, go to:
    • MAC Installs:  \Library\Application\Support\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<product key>_<<product version>>\
  2. Delete the "LGS.data" file or Open a new text file called "LGS.data"
  3. Add the following text to the text file:  _STANDALONE (or  _NETWORK if the product uses a network license). The text must be all capital letters.
  4. Save the file to the following folder: \Library\Application\Support\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<product key>_<<product version>>\
  5. Start the program and the Let’s Get Started screen should display
  6. Select the appropriate license type and follow the prompts

*If the above does not work you may what to try a clean uninstall and reinstall of the product, you may be encountering an incomplete download.

I hope this helps, please keep us posted. Smiley Happy

Checked now, there is no such folder. Just the Maya 2017 folder.

Edit: sorry, my bad. Need to install Maya 2016 again:)

Hello,

I have tried everything above, and even made similar mistakes as the other guy who had the same issue. But resolved them, and now I am going to try and attempt your solution. I can follow along , however after I get into the autodesk file, from the library, the only folder left is one that says ADUT, which leads me no where. Is there anything else I can do?

I am trying to install 2016 on my Macbook Pro , El Capitan.

Thank you ,

Stephen.

Hello @kernse,

I am not sure what error you received. If you could send that over it would be more helpful.

This article covers Mac Install adSSO error on 2016 or newer program installation

Thank you.

Hello,

I am receiving the error message,

License was not obtained

Tried Maya 2016 (657H1 2016.0.0.F), error 20

License method:

environment variable MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD='standalone'

Product choice:

environment variable MAYA_LICENSE='657f1'

License file override:

environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set

I have also tried downloading and installing the file that you previously mentioned and that did not work.
