License Manager Help

I can't connect our AutoDesk products to the license server.  I've just recently installed the latest version of LMTOOLS on our a Windows 2008 R2 server.  I've configured the AutoDesk product to point to the server name.  FLEXnet finder has completed, asks me to click finish then I get "A valid license could not be obtained by the network license manager.  If you are still unable to access a license, contact your system administrator."  Heh, I am the system admin so what's next?

I'm hoping they sent me the correct license file with the correct server name and mac address, apparently this information was needed to generate the licenses file?

Is there any Windows Firewall rules that need to be configured for LMTOOLS to work properly?

*AutoCAD 2012 network license. LMTOOLS installed in Windows Server 2008 R2

The FLEXlm® based version uses the following ports:

  • TCP ports 2080 (for the adskflex vendor daemon)
  • TCP ports 27000 to 27009 (for the lmgrd master daemon)

what does flex lm say when you run a status inquiry?

Darren is right.  You'll want to set firewall exceptions for all four .exe files of the NLM server as well as port exceptions for 2080 and 27000.  You can test the connectivity to the NLM from the client by using Internet Explorer (not 3rd party.)

http://yourservername:2080

http://yourservername:27000

You should see a jargon response like this on a successful test:

Wê-60Wê-60Wê-60Wê-60Wê-60Wê-60

If you get a 'Page cannot be displayed' then you have some sort of connectivity error.

Also, because Server 2008 R2 and Windows Vista/7 use IPv6 as their default protocol for network communication, you may need to ensure that you are forcing an IPv4 address connection when connecting to the server.

For more information about Network License Manager connectivity issues and IPv6, please see my discussion post here:

In addition to what Darren and TravisNave had posted, you may want to check if you need to use the IPv6 version of License Manager which can be downloaded here:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?id=10976858&siteID=123112&linkID=9240617

Read README on how to upgrade your current installation.

You may want to check this blog if you need the IPv6:

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!!!
