License Manager 2004

I hope somone has a solution. We have one license of AutoCAD 2004 but use this license at many machines via the PLU. Sometimes when we try to import an exported license it says that the file is corrupt and we should export it again from the original computer. We do that but the file remains corrupt. Then we have to reautorise with Autodesk. Now they refuse saying that we have to many autorizations to our name. Not even our reseller wants to help us. We have it working again through after another reseller helped us... How do we stop it from happening?

Regards,

Gordon

Are you getting error 17.1.84?

It can be caused several ways:

1. Export the license. Launch AutoCAD on the same PC, and run it for the
24-hour grace period. After the grace period expires, click "Authorize";
you'll get this error. This may corrupt the license, causing the
reauthorization.

2. Export the license. Restore the license files from a backup, or have an
OS crash, or loss of power, or a virus attack: anything that can damage the
files or the file system. Attempt to import the license, and the 17.1.84
error appears. I believe the license folder for AutoCAD 2004 is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Macrovision\SafeCast\Product Licenses

This folder must never be restored to an earlier version.

3. Lastly, of course, it's usually caused by a damaged transfer file. On
import, if you click "Browse" to select the file, the fields below the
filename are filled in with actual data from the transfer file, so that you
can verify that the license number and computer ID are correct prior to the
import. If those fields are correct (and if you re-create the transfer
file, perhaps zipping it for transport to protect it), then the file is
probably OK.

Therefore to find out why this keeps happening, you'll have to watch out for
and track unusual events on the PCs where it happens, such as loss of power,
disk restores, etc. At the time of the error, it's also useful to launch
AutoCAD, to see if it gives any other error (besides "license exported").

There is a PLU log file here which may help:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\PLU

Also look for "AdLM.err" files in the AutoCAD install directory or a
subdirectory here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk
