I am thinking about upgrading to Maya 2014 for the coming year and I need to know how will the licensing work when dealing with a rendering enviroment from a server. How will licencing work in this environment?

It is my understanding that render farms do not require licensing.  Anything to add, DarrenP?

maya is different

i believe with 1 network license of Maya you get 5 render nodes

if you need more you would need to buy the standalone version of mental ray for each machine

What about licensing for 2014 of Maya software, is it now subscription based like Adobe?  After 2014 ends if we don’t reup the software will it stop working?

No.  You can always use the last version of the software that you registered.  Subscription offers you the next release of the software, plus 3 versions back.
