LMREMOVE Linger License?

I am pretty new to FLEXLM. I am trying to free a license that is locked on a users OLD computer. This computer has a new user (display name) The locked license is tagged as a linger license. Using LMREMOVE, I get a warning that I cannot "remove" a linger license. Other than restarting the server, which is extreme for our 24 hour environment, are there any suggestions? Should I try to return the license early from the client computer?

Thanks,
Tim -Muermann Engineering
