Inventor failed installation the first time I tried, and I am unable to run the uninstaller to try to repair or reinstall the program. Here is my installation log:

I recieve this error when starting Inventor:

Vault, TrueView, and Inventor Fusion all start without errors.

My basic system specifications are as follows:

Intel Pentium D 820 (2.8 GHz)

Intel GMA945 Graphics Chipset

3.00 GB DDR2 RAM

7200RPM 250GB HDD (129GB Free)

Screen Resolution 1280x1024

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1

Any assistance would be greatly appreicated.

This is sometimes caused by memory heap settings on machines running Microsoft SQL Server.  What you can do to try to resolve this is the following:

• At a command prompt, type REGEDT32.EXE to start Registry Editor.
• In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems
• In the right pane of Registry Editor, click Windows.
• On the Edit menu, click Modify.
• In the Edit String dialog box, locate the SharedSection parameter string in the Value data box, and then specify a larger value for the SharedSection parameter.

Mine looks like this:  SharedSection=1024,3072,512

What you will want to do is increase the last number by 256 or even 512 and see if the problem goes away.  It's worth a try.

So, after I do that, do I attempt to start the program or do I try to uninstall it then re-install it.

Just see if it will start.  If not, try right-clicking it and starting as Administrator and see if you still get the error.

Any other ways to remove the software? If I do a system restore and attempt to install it again, could that fix it?

As a last resort, you can also try the MSI Cleanup Utility.  But it has possible negative side-effects on Windows Vista/7.

I tried the automated uninstaller thing, but when I try to run installation again, it seems to think that Inventor is still there.  I checked the /Program Files/ directory; the Autodesk folder is gone. 

Should I go ahead and take the risk of that installer clean-up or is there something else we can try?

If you've gone thru the steps in the Autodesk clean uninstall link above without success, then you might take the risk. You might install it just to see if it shows up in the list. If it does and you do remove it, you might get a 1402 registry error on your next install. If you think you can fix that error with the steps provided to fix the 1402, then by all means go for it. Microsoft and Autodesk no longer support or recomment the MSI cleanup, but sometimes it's the only thing left that works. Use at your own risk.

Well, while trying to get this fixed, I found out that System Restore points get deleted on restart. So, right now, I'm backing up data to reinstall windows, which should hopefully fix both problems in one run.
