Inventor 5.3 cannot get valid license

i have ais installed and licensed in my laptop. now, i killed my cdilla
license (transferred out to another pc), uninstalled inventor and then did a
re-install, this time selecting network version during installation. now,
when i start inventor 5.3 it says,".....The network license manager was not
able to get a valid license. error [1.5.-18]...."

Question:
1. Do i need to un install mdt6 as well?
2. If all i want is inventor 5.3, networked version, do i still have to
install mdt6?

Any ideas? Thanks!

You must own network licenses and have a network license manager setup in
order to use the network versions of autodesk products. If you only own the
license you exported to another machine then you have to uninstall Inventor
again and install the standalone version and import the license back to your
machine. Make sure that you recheck the machine code on your machine prior
to exporting the license from the other machine.

Hi jerry,

thanks for the reply...
...i have the network license (.lic file, for ais5) and the license manager
in another computer (license server). i've tested one installation on
another computer and it works fine.....I just want to test if my laptop can
conenct to the license server.
it seems that you cannot specify which server the inventor 5.3 will get
the license from, in MDT6 we can do this during the creation of the
deployment image, right? so do we need to have the mdt6 installed so that
inventor can see the network license?

Try setting an enviroment variable as folllows:
ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE=@licenseservername

See http://support.autodesk.com/getDoc.asp?id=TS67802 for help in setting
variables.
