Installing from Network Very Slow

I am trying to install AutoCAD 2002 from an Image file on the network to
my machine but the process has taken over several hours. The dialog box
has a blue progress bar completed while the box says " Please wait,
installation in progress"

I had 2000i removed and all the AutoCAD registry keys deleted. If I was
to cancel the install, it would take over several hours to quit. In the
task manager, SystemIdleProcess CPU is at 99 and MISEXEC.EXE is at 0.

I have over 80GB on the drive I'm trying to install to. If I was to
reboot, it would continue to install at it's slow speed. I have
disabled virus protection, email and other programs.

I saw that someone else had this same problem, but those answers didn't
help.

If anyone could assist, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bob

Is everything else on the network slow from that machine? What's your
connection (10 Mbps??)? Could be a bad NIC too, either on your machine, the
server or some other NIC causing a lot of extra traffic on the network.

The only time it took my a long time to install AutoCAD Mechanical 2000i
over the network was when that machine I was installing on was hooked up to
a 10Mbps hub, it took about 30 minutes instead of about 5 minutes.

No one else seems to be complaining. I do have a 100 Mbps connection. If I look
at my directory, it seems that all the files are in place, but I'm not sure.

For a full install, is there a CRC or property check to see if all the files
installed? Right now there is no utilization on the CPU. I have copied large
files to and fro with no noticable speed degradation. What is the acceptable
time for network installs over a 100Mbps connection?

Make sure your Virus checker is not checking every file as it comes down. I
have seen this even here at Autodesk when the Virus checker is validating
every file.

Hope this helps

I have the same problem. Installing AutoCAD2002 from an image placed on the network share on my IBM ThinkPad R32 with WinXP. We have switched ethernet 100MB and plenty of capacity.

The dialog box has a blue progress bar completed while the box says "Please wait, installation in progress". If I was to cancel the install, it would take over several hours to quit. In the task manager, SystemIdleProcess CPU is at 99 and MISEXEC.EXE is at 0.

Someone told me it could be a problem with the msiexec file, but the msiexec.exe in my system32 dir is 2.0.xxxx and the other one in the network share of AutoCAD 2002 is version 1.xxxxx

I dont have solved this issue, but hope someone can have solution. I dont have any antivirus runnig.

I have solved the problem by running the client.exe file from the network share. During the installation of AutoCAD 2002 from the network share by clicking the client.exe file, you can select the installation options and during the installation you can see what file is copiing, what is component is registering and so on. At the end of the AutoCAD 2002 installation, if you have chosen to install VoloView Express, another, VoloView express installation process starts. It will install your VoloView and at the end of the VoloView installation, the AutoCAD 2002 continues to configure the system. You will be notified by the installer that the installation is completed successfuly. So my installation of AutoCAD2002 has completed successfuly also!

But what is interesting, if you open Start->Control Panel->Add Remove Programs you can see a huge of free space between the AutoCAD 2002 item and the next item of in the list of installed programs on your computer. Doesn't look friendly.

Back to the original problem, I guess this must be a problem of the image, nothing else.
