The following would be nice if Autodesk could accommodate some day in the future:
1. Design and develop a single DirectX library installer for all of their products, rather than a unique bundling for each product.
2. Pre-package an MSI installer for that DirectX library bundle that can be pushed within the AdminImage deployment setup.
If this is too pie-in-the-sky, then ...
3. Fix the AdminImage deployment installer to return a failure code to SCCM when it bails out due to DirectX 9 not being pre-installed.

yes Directx installation is a pain. It is only missing a couple of dll's (Directx gets new dll's every other month!...)
We made an .msi package of the missing dll's and it worked fine.
With Windows 7 it gets worse as it has Directx 11 and the installation is requiring Directx 9!
I packaged DirectX 9 and was able to push it with my SCCM package for the product, however, I (we all) have to package a separate DirectX 9 bundle for each and every Autodesk product, because no two are identical. So I have SCCM packages of DirectX 9 for 3DS Max 2010, AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011, DWG TrueView 2011, and so on. Wonderful stuff. It's 2011 and this is how far we've come.
I hate to editorialize here, but it seems enterprise deployments are an afterthought for Autodesk. This leaves an impression on IT managers in large corporate environments that they don't take it as serious as companies like Siemens, Dassault, and so on. It's unfortunate, but true. I have to admit Autodesk is getting better at supporting enterprise deployments, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. One more suggestion:
4. Provide a better/easier/simpler way to uninstall/remove products in the same unattended manner in which they can be installed.
Just for the record: The improvements made to deployment capabilities with the 2013 products are fantastic. Thank you!
