How will replacing license server affect client installs?

I've read about this in different posts and from some other sources, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what will happen in my situation. We have Autocad Mechanical 2007, Mechanical Desktop 2007, and Inventor 11 on network licenses in a single server configuration. We are replacing our server and the new one will have the same server name. But, of course the Host ID will change. I know that when you set up the client deployments you enter both the server name and the Host ID, but does the client use the Host ID? It obviously uses the server name. I'm wondering if we replace the server with another with the same name (but different Host ID), will the clients still find the server? Or, will I have to edit the registry and/or Licpath.lic file on each client with the correct info? Or ... will the client be prompted for the license server anyway because the Host ID is different? Thank you.

You will need a new license file as they are also tied to the Mac address.
Pretty painless.
The clients should be fine with the server name being the same.
Pretty sure you can change the Mac address of a server NIC and if you do that you don't have to do anything else.
Just don't ever boot the old server up again, that gets a little interesting.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought too, but I wanted to get some info from others.

I wanted to follow up on this question in case anybody is interested. We replaced our server last weekend and it worked as I had originally thought. The new server has the same name, but a different host ID. The client installs had no problem finding the license server. So, the host ID does not matter in this situation.

That's correct. The only thing that the client know and bothers about is
either the server name or IP depending on what was input.

Right. The clients will only care about the location on the network. However
as pointed out you likely needed a different license.
