How to install patch to network copy if admin. mach. doesn't exist anymore?

The service pack 2 readme advises:

It is also strongly recommended that you apply the update to the
administrator machine first. (This is the computer from which the network
deployment was >installed). Once you apply the update on the administrator
machine, start applying the update on client systems. You must apply an
update to each client >machine before running AutoCAD.

Our administrator machine that created the network deployment does not exist
anymore (it was replaced with a better machine). Because of this, I tried to
apply the patch from my new machine (no Autocad installed yet). This gave me
an 'Error 114: the AutoCAD 2000i update was not applied'.

How can I install the patch to the network copy if the administrator machine
doesn't exist anymore?

Do I have to create a new parallel installation and then uninstall and
reinstall all of the clients?

Thanx

You shouldn't have to do that. Are you actually running a network install of acad or do
you just have a network deployment (are the .exe's located on a server share somewhere
that everyone uses or is everything installed locally?)? Most people are using client
deployments rather than network heavy installs. If you are running on the network heavy
version you should be able to update the installation from any machine that has autocad
installed (from the network deployment), with sufficient rights to modify the information
in the network deployment location. You will need to run the update on all of the clients
regardless of the type of install that you have.

Hi Jason and Tony,

I'm checking on how you could do this but for right now you can not remove
the Administrator system. That is the system that created the "Network"
Deployment and then installed ACAD.EXE to the server. I was given one
possible solution, but it is not very clean and I don't know that I would do
it with out testing it first.

I hope to hear something back tomorrow.

Thanks

Bud

Jason

Yes, we are running a network heavy install....The Acad.exe is located on
the server

I ran the update (u090_u181p.exe) from a machine with rights to the AutoCAD
directory...I received the 'AutoCAD 2000i update has been successfully
applied' message, and noted that the Acad.exe (on network) now has todays
date. I checked the _vernum on that same machine; it returned U.0.90

I logged into this same machine with limited rights to the AutoCAD
directory, and uninstalled the client 2000i. I then rebooted, ran the client
install, rebooted, started AutoCAD, checked _vernum (still U.0.90), shutdown
AutoCAD, apply update (with NO write permissions to network), received the
'AutoCAD 2000i update has been successfully applied' message, checked
_vernum which still returns U.0.90

My understanding is that _vernum should return U.1.81 after applying this
patch. I also expected that the update would inquire the location of the
client deployment directory (which it didn't). The new date on the Acad.exe
would seem to indicate that some change was made, but I can not verify it
with the _vernum.
