    Dean,

Have you tried swapping one of the video cards from your old systems into
the new on? This would either eliminate it as a variable or identify it as
the cause. The fact that one of your engineers have been able to reproduce
the behavior on a local disk make me begin to suspect that something is
going on in those machines at a system level. MHZ alone does not cause the
problem, I have a 733MHZ P3 at home and never have read only errors, saving
on my net or local drives. I know of one other site that reported local
read only errors that occurred only on a single, unique system on their
network. I am going to give you the same advice I gave them, check with the
system board manufacturer/vendor regarding any known problems. You may also
want to check out http://support.intel.com/support/mth/, I do not know if
the issue described on this page could impact you in this way or not.

    Jerry,

I'll tell you what we stumbled upon w/ the help of Drew in this HELP area is
that our current mother boards are the new Intel 820 chipset but the boards are
produced by Asus. The 820 has a MTH-Memory translator Hub Problem. This causes
the computers to reboot or become RO w/o any reason.

Intel knows there is a problem & bad thing is we have 17 computers w/ this
problem on the mother boards. There is a downloadable program on their web site
that can be accessed to determine if the computers have a problem.

I'm relaying this information to you incase others have the same problem & to
    aid in your helping them.

    Here is the web site.
