Graphics Cards compatible with AutoCAD and Lumion

There seems to be an on-going conflict concerning graphics cards that are on the AutoCAD approved list and cards that work well with some other programs.  I'm looking for a card that works well with AutoCAD 2011, Revit Architecture 2011, and an architectural animation program called Lumion.  Any suggestions?

Hi Steven,

Welcome ot Autodesk Froum.

You should be able to select and filter the list of certified systems and graphics hardware for Autodesk Products from this site.

Thank you.

I know what works with AutoCAD from the list.  I want something that also works with Lumion.  A Dell Computer sales person and a very good Lumion user recommended a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 with 3GB GDDR5.  Is that compatible with AutoCAD 2011?

Do you see that card on the Autodesk compatibility list for 2011? Most likely not, 2011 is old and Autodesk isn't going back that far to add it sadly.

Don't really care if the card is on some list...  I realize no one is going to run a test with an old version of AutoCAD.  I'm asking whether anyone knows from experience whether that card would work to run AutoCAD (current version) and Lumion.

Get the card that satisfies the heaviest requirements.  Lumion has some substantial requirements compared to AutoCAD.  I can't say for certain you will be error free, but you are likely to run into other bottlenecks in AutoCAD well before the card becomes an issue.

Did you end up upgrading your graphics card? I'm considering the same thing to improve my lumion workflow experience. Granted I am using 2015 Revit and Cad as opposed to 2011.

No... I gave up on that idea a while back... I'm going to be building
another computer to handle Lumion. I'll be building 3D models on my old
computer in either AutoCAD or Revit and importing them into Lumion (probably
in pieces).

I just got a lot of good input and a Newegg "wishlist number" for what I
hope to order soon. Here's a link to the Newegg forum string if you're
interested... RE: Need Help Compiling a Shopping List...
46815.aspx#946815> There's a guy in the forum who really got into
designing a computer for Lumion specs, and he did a lot of research in
Lumion forums, etc... Looks like I'll be paying about $1,100 (without
monitors, keyboard, mouse.)

It's my understanding is that Lumion relies almost totally on the graphics
card and a big processor, and a lot of memory to function. A Cad Manager
for an architectural firm I know says they build a computer for Lumion and
it usually works OK for AutoCAD and Revit... but not like a having a card on
the AutoDesk approved list. (I stopped buying almost useless upgrades to
AutoCAD a while back, so I intend to stand pat on that program.)

Good luck!
