FlexLM for REVIT SEries and AutoCAD 2007 on Win XP

I have installed Revit Building Seines and AutoCAD 2007 on PCs with Windows XP pro Service Pack 2

When the PC client with Win XP tries to connect to the PC with the FlexLM , the client cannot see the license manager and does not consider the PC with license manager as a license server. it gives an error of 1.5,15 and then it gives a dialogue box contain the following:
Networking Software (WINSOCK) could not obtain the IP address of the computer < PCname>
This could be due to not being a valid computer name, or the DNS Name Resolution Service is not working or not configured properly
You need to include in your "hosts File"

Can any one help in this so i can get connected to the license manager over the workgroup ( the PC is not a server) and expalin to me step by step

Hi Michael,

Do the test :
ping "pc with Flexlm" with the IP AND with the hostname.
If you can't ping it with the hostname, you have a problem with your DNS.
See the properties of the lan card.

Exactly right. Chances are it is the Windows firewall that is blocking the FlexLM service.

-15 Cannot connect to license server system.
The server (lmgrd) has not been started yet, or the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the TCP/IP port or host name in the license file has been changed.

Make sure that the License Server is set up to run as a Service and that the service is started. Then make sure you can ping the hostname of that server from your client machine. If it is a DNS problem, you can add the correct IP to hostname in your hosts file. If it is a firewall issue, you can simply turn it off or make an exception.

You are right it is a Firewall problem
When switching firewall off it works fine
But when making FlexLM an exception with port 2080 it does not work
What should be the name field of the port in the Exception so it will work with firewall on
I put adskflex as the name and it did not respond also LMGRD did not respond
I believe this is an issue that should be resolved and posted o Autodesk knowledge base

The Autodesk License Manager (AdLM) needs unrestricted access to TCP/IP port
2080 and ports 27000 - 27009.

Do we have to define all ports in exeptions from 27000-270009 and are they conected to a specific name
Is port 2080 connected to a specific name or only ports should be defined and name does not matter

You can specify what port you want to use in your license file.
The format of the SERVER line in the license file is:
SERVER host hostid [port]
Example:
SERVER my_server 17007ea8 27000
or
SERVER my_server 17007ea8 TCP:27000

Right, the actual service is the lmgrd.exe. Though, technically if you are on a private IP network behind a hardware router/firewall, then there is no reason to have the Windows Firewall enabled in your LAN. It just creates unnecessary problems.
