I doubt that you can change the hostname like that. You need to request a
new license file from Autodesk giving them your correct hostname and
portname.

I am attempting to get a Floating License Server running on one of our
Windows Server 2003 machines.
I am able to follow the steps of the installation (located at
http://www.alias.com/glb/eng/support/knowledgebase/faq_details.jsp?family=Maya&itemId=5990)
but I receive an error when clicking the "Perform Status Enquiry" button in
the LMTOOLS utility.
The error message is a bit vague:
lmgrd is not running: Cannot connect to license server system.
The license server manager (lmgrd) has not been started yet,
the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the
port or hostname in the license file has been changed.
So, it could be that:
1. LMGRD is not running
2. My license file is incorrect
3. The portname or hostame in my license file changed
I’m believe I have the right license file at this point. All the info in
the “System Settings” tab of LMTOOLS, including the Ethernet Address, is
matched perfectly to the license file. The only difference is that the 1st
line of the license file I received from Autodesk read:
SERVER server 003048563c65 7111
Which the instructions at
http://www.alias.com/glb/eng/support/knowledgebase/faq_details.jsp?family=Maya&itemId=5990
told me to change the 2nd "server" to my server HOSTID, which I did. It now
reads:
SERVER luke 003048563c65 7111
I believe that my license file is correct at this point. I'm inclined to
rule out #2.
Because this is the first install of this license, there’s no port or
hostname to change. This rules out #3.
That leaves #1: LMGRD is not running. When I open the Services panel in the
Microsoft Management Console, I can see that the service “FlexLM License
Manager” is installed and set to start up in Automatic mode.
When I get properties on the service and press the “Start” button to
manually start the service, I get this message:
"The FlexLM License Manager service on Local Computer started and then
stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for
example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."
I’m not sure if this is normal or not. I suspect it is not, and that this
is the reason that LMTools us unable to serve the license – the LMGRD
(FlexLM License Manager Service) is not starting up.
Any help would be appreciated. I have 5 Maya licenses that are in a holding
pattern while I get this figured out (and we're in full production: gulp).
