For what it's worth, FLEXlm really is not 'just a way to sell more
products'. Rather, it is a technology selected to replace an aging
technology.
As you probably know, Autodesk has been including network licensing
technology (Elan) into AutoCAD for many releases now. Through the
development of AutoCAD 2002, it became evident that the Elan network
licensing technology used in those prior releases, needed to be changed.
Without discussing features, if for no other reason then the fact that the
Elan network license technology is no longer developed, supported, ported to
new operating systems, etc..
Acknowledging a change needed to be made, we did our homework and the FLEXlm
technology was selected and implemented.
