Fatal Error: Security system is not functionin

We have a network installation of AutoCad Map 3. The machine that hosts the
license manager and a workstation were recently upgraded to Windows 2000.
The license manager and clients were re-installed, and the LM runs fine, and
a second workstation running Windows 95 runs the client without incident.
But the Win2000 workstation won't run the client after installation, giving
the message "Fatal Error: Security system is not functioning or is
improperly installed".
I reviewed the help document on the website and tried several things,
without success:
I can ping the host from the workstation.
The system dates and times are the same.
I tried setting the ACADSERVER to the host name, but it doesn't
"stick"--after I close the command prompt window and reopen it, the
ACADSERVER variable is gone. Don't know what that means. Regardless, it
doesn't correct the problem.
The host is recognizing the workstation. This line appears in the log file:
01-Feb-28 09:37:46: user@workstation [0]: Missed packet: Bad file
descriptor.
Any ideas?

Have you updated adesksys.dll? Check out
http://support01.autodesk.com/knowledgebase/html/1
link).
You can't set a system variable at the command prompt. It only lasts for that session of
command.exe. To set the variable (if you must) go to start / settings / control panel /
system / Advanced / Environment Variables and set it in the system variables box.

Thanks, Jason. Reading the installation instructions for adesksys.dll, it
says that if the existing file doesn't have exactly 90112 bytes, not to
proceed. Mine has 85504, so I guess that's out.
I changed the ACADSERVER variable in the manner you suggested, and still no
go.

Do me a favor. Rename the existing adesksys.dll to adesksysdll.old and put
the new one in there. Let me know if it works. If it doesn't you can
always put the old one back. I ran into the same problem. According to the
instructions I shouldn't have replaced the old adesksys.dll, but it wasn't
working so I replaced it anyway and it worked fine.
