Error 1606. Could not access network location Setup.

AutoCAD2013-1606-Error.gif

It appears there is an extra “\” …\AutoCAD 2013 – English\R19.0\enu\\Support\.

I don’t know if this is causing the error or not.

I tried these articles but everything checked out.

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9579121&linkID=9240617 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549

Not sure what to do next.

Have you tried installing from a CD DVD, Thumbrdrive, or by copying the installation folders to your Hard Drive?

From the thumbdrive.

I presume you get the same error then?

I'm not sure.

Those are the things I would have tried.

If there is in fact an error in your user profile (as the links you listed suggest) I would try either

  1. creating a new user profile (or)
  2. logging in as the admin profile

and trying the installation again.

I also presumed you had admin privileges when you attempted to install.  If you do not, that is likely an issue of some sort as well.

There is no problem with the user profile. That checked out.  I do have admin rights on this PC.

The only thing I have't tried is copying the files from the thumbdrive to the hard drive.  Why would that cause an issue?

Handful of network issues, or perhaps the length of the share name... The thumb drive would eliminate things, as would trying another profile. If it fails with the thumb drive its not a network issue. And changing profiles would eliminate the profile completely if it failed. I'm not sure beyond that what the problem is or could be. As a worst case scenario it could be hardware issues or corrupted operating system. Speaking or corruption, can you reinstall from an original disc or from the original download? Maybe the server corrupted the installation path. Lastly the double "\" in the path isn't always a problem I've had it display it before but work. Good luck.

Hi,

>> The only thing I have't tried is copying the files from the thumbdrive to the hard drive.

>> Why would that cause an issue?

Because part of the installation procedure installs Framework (plus hotfix). Framework is quite sensitive to non-trusted drives, so if your security settings are default (or stronger) a network-drive (or external drive) might be blocked for some update process. So it really makes sense to copy the installation files to a local folder (on C:) and start then the installation.

And remember, the message tells you that you have a network-problem during installation.

>> There is no problem with the user profile

Why are you that sure, at least you have a problem with installation and we don't know where. So it's a tip to run that with another profile just as an option.

>> I do have admin rights on this PC.

Great, and you have started the SETUP.EXE with right-click and option "start as administrator" or you have disable UAC?

Just to have admin-permissions does not mean you start the programs with admin-permissions, that changed since Vista.

You also can start with first installing the DirectX-components from the installation media, then the Framework (+hotfix) and when this is finished, then try to start the AutoCAD-installation again.

If it again fails, please upload the log-file that was created during the AutoCAD-installation.

Hi,

first failure I see is Raster-Design. Try to disable "Raster Design" from the list of products to be installed and try it again.

Would this headache go away if I were to install it with a local profile on this machine?

Message 15 of 26

With a local profile everything should install fine.

Check out the following section from http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS1055299

Folder redirection

There are several ways to redirect certain folders from within the user profile, including (but not limited to) the Start Menu, My Documents or Temp folders. This customization can be done directly on the computer or with network management software, such as Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policies. These types of customizations can cause failures in the AutoCAD secondary installer which might result in error messages, such as Error 1606: Unable to access network location. To correct this issue, you should remove folder redirection from the user, reboot the machine, and then try to run AutoCAD again.

Thanks,

Danny

Thanks a lot Danny! I'll see if I can't have that folder redirection disabled temporarily, or just use a local profile to install with.

Hi,

Same problem – I have tried everything I found on internet,  but no change. Then I’ve decide to create a new user account, and Acad 2014 installation had no problems. After that I simply switch to the original user account and Acad 2014 installation was OK on this user account as well.  That’s how it works for me (Win 7x64 – Autocad 2014x64):

  1. Go to user accounts and create a new account as Administrator
  2. Log on with new account
  3. After logon go to Switch user and Go back to the original account
  4. That’s it – now you can install Acad 2014  with original account

It works for me – I hope it works for you either

I appreciate your helpful replies. That said, I would like to take a moment to rant regarding AutoDesk's need to make this sort of thing so difficult and internally complex. Why do we need a 12-step process to load a viewer?! Perhaps there could be a "light" version for those of us relatively normal users who do not care to use all the accessory applicatiions AutoDesks thinks we need or would like us to use. My goodness! Give me a one-file download that does not rely on three other products that also have to be installed. Just let me load and look at a DWG.

-Cheers-

Well, ended up disabling roaming profiles and folder redirection. So now I have a local profile.  This appears to have solved the issue. Everything seems to have installed properly and is working correctly. It even corrected the problem I was having with properties not displaying for the selected object.

IMO it's poor programming on AutoDesk's part to not be able to account for that. It seems like it's a pretty common IT practice.

Thank you to those who helped out!
