Error 15.-18

On a network installation of Inventor Suite 2008 I get the license error 1.5.-18 when I am trying to start Mechanical Desktop.
Inventor 2008 works fine on the same License server.
The installation was done from a network deployment. Same FlexLM-Settings for both applications.

I tried:
1) Checked the FlexLM-Server version (11.4, all files same as latest DVD)
2) Got another License file for a second server - same result
3) Checked debug.log at the server - no entry
4) deleted c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\autodesk\network\AdskNetSrv.dat and LICPATH.LIC and the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE - so Mechanical asked me for the license server - I entered the name (also with IP) - same problem
5) Set FLEXLM_TIMEOUT to 1000000, 2000000, 3000000 - no effect

WHAT ELSE COULD I TRY - Other than just forgetting Mechanical 2008????

Thanks for any ideas

Thanks, Jimmy, but Yes, I have checked all these papers already:

The user has administrator rights and can edit the keys manually (read/write)

The software has been installed all from the Inventor Suite 2008 - DVD - so a conflict between the products should not be possible

I checked the version of FLEXLM - all up to date, same as on the 2008 DVD

any more ideas?

Hi Marco,

Does the server work as expected?

we see that error -18 means that the server doesn't
support the particular feature.

Perhaps you were sent the wrong license file by
your reseller?

Alternatively ensure that firewall does not
conflict.

Furthermore you need to see the server log and
ensure that it works as expected. I'm thinking there is something wrong with the
server in your case.

Yank the ethernet cable. Start MDT2008. When it can't find the NLM, it will ask you to specify the license server system. Plug in the ethernet cable again and type in the hostname of your server. See if the problem persists.

Good luck.

I had similar problems with the Installation of Revit and MEP 2008. I had to open a support request which eventually lead to Autodesk giving me a new license file. They seem to have problems with the cascading license. This all took about two weeks of phone calls and emails before the would listen to me telling them that it was the license file. I was told that they have to go through everything else before they could say that the license file was the problem.

FYI: the same error number always came up as well.

This is some of our correspondence from the support request:

Called Aaron and got a screen share going on the server machine.

Did a staus enquiry and did not see PLIST increment in server status. I believe this is the problem. Transferred the debug.log file as well as the licence file for the program. Also did captures of the Server Status.

Will consult Jay when he gets in the office.

I had him modify the license file to remove redundant lines regarding the server information. They made these changes to all 3 of the license files. I had them stop and the start al;l 3 servers. The PLIST increment was then displayed in the server status.

Testing of ABS 2007 showed that this solved the problem. Case closed.
