Environment Variable not working

The variable isn't working for me. The only way I can get my 2005 clients to see a new LM server is to rename the licpath.lic file or maybe modify it to the new server name but thats not how it should work. I have a variable for ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE that points to the new LM server but the client continues to pull from the old one. I have a new deployment location and LM services running (which BTW was frustrating to figure out that if the LM server had the variable it wont start the service). In article # TS71384 it explains priority of the ways that clients find LM srvr's, however I've tried multiple ways to "trick" the client into looking for the new server to no avail - both env var, reg setting, renaming the lic file. Nothing works, however renaming that file brings up the find server dialog - this isn't good for an end user with no knowledge of LM services and isn't great for mass changes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you change the contents of the lipath.lic file, to the new server and MAC address will it find that server?

Yes it will but I dont want to have to push new files to clients all with different install locations - we run a variety of networked Autodesk products, all in different install locations - unless there is an easy way (free too:) someone knows of?

Thanks for the quick reply Message was edited by: chadpen

Well that seems to solve the problem now you need to find an easy way to implement it.
The Licpath.lic file is sort of always in the same place, that is the program Root.
Nowdays c:\program files { autocad, Land desk top, Architectural desktop) so send an email with the licpath.lic file attached to all your Arch Desktop users telling them where to place the files, etc.

I run multiple types of Autodesk products all in different locations - ADT goes into ADT folder, ABS goes into ABS folder, Core goes into core folder, Raster Design goes into... well you get the picture. Not an easy task to get an end user to place a file in a directory when there will be multiple locations to deal with. Plus the env var should be the ticket so making it work is priority.

What is the value you are setting the variable to? If you type SET at a DOS
prompt does the variable and value showup as expected?

The value is set to the server = SERVERNAME
E.G. - ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE=SERVERNAME
Set reveals the correct variable - as expected
This is very peculiar indeed

Try ADSFLEX_LICENSE_FILE=@SERVERNAME
The @ symbol is very important as I think you will find.

Where did you find that tidbit of info?

I was wondering if I should, as we use Eagle Point which DOES use the @ symbol in its srvr Env Var.

I shall give that a try.

It is in several documents. For example, if you search on
ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE in the Autodesk Support knowledgebase one of the
results will be the following:

Thanks Jerry!

Unfortunately I cant read every single TS article that ADESK puts out and the articles I did read (heres one TS71384) didn't mention that @ symbol. The article you pointed me to was based on Distributed LM so I figured it didn't pertain to my situation as I have a single LM srvr.

Appreciate the help - I just wish uniformity was priority at Autodesk when it comes to their documentation.

Thanks again!

P.S. It did "fix" the clients.
