Download fail?

I have downloaded Civil 3D 2011 twice now and both times when I try to execute the 3,647,377 KB install file I get the error shown on the attached image.  It says "only part of a readprocessmemory or writeprocessmemory request was completed".  And it doesn't start the install.  Anyone know what this means?  The file was downloaded from the subscription center and is called: AutoCAD_Civil3D_2011_English_32bit.exe.

These are memory errors for when data is written or read to or from memory into a process. Doing some Google searches I came up with some information that gives me direction for potential solutions. From this I saw nothing to indicate physical problems with the memory installed on your computer.

Start by rebooting and clearing out your temp folder. Open Windows Explorer and type %temp% in the Address bar. Delete any folders or files older than the last few days.

Next quit any background applications including and especially an antivirus application. Get out the big guns version of this solution and reboot the computer in Diagnostic Mode. This will not load many drivers and additional applications.

As you are not installing from a DVD the need to copy the media to the hard drive is not necessary. If this were a DVD install an additional suggestion would be to copy the DVD’s, in order, starting with disk 1 into a single folder. Click to overwrite when copying any additional DVD’s.

Do a windows Update so you have the most current version of the operating system. You especially want to update the Windows Installer if there are updates for it.

It may not be a bad idea to download the most recent virus signatures for your antivirus then set it to run in its most thorough scanning mode. Doing an antimalware scan would also be advisable.

Let us know how it works out with these suggestions.

Sorry missed the inclusion of a link on how to use Diagnostic Mode. You will find it here: http://support.autodesk.com/getdoc.asp?id=TS1054234.

Well I tried all of the suggestions without success.  Immediately after double clicking the .exe file, I get the same message as before.  Is this because my system is trying to load the whole 3.5 GB file into my RAM and I only have 3 GB available?  If so, is the only solution to request a DVD to install the software from?

Requesting the DVD may be the easiest or fastest solution. The download is a WinRAR self-extracting executable. It only needs to load as much as is necessary to run the executable part it then extracts the archive out of the remainder. It should work with much less memory than you have.

Do you have a different computer available to you? You could extract or re-download then extract from that computer. By default it extracts to the C:\Autodesk folder when you click the Install button. You can change this location to a thumb drive, external hard drive, or network share. You could also copy the content after extraction to one of these locations then browse to the setup.exe from the computer you intend to install the application on. When the extraction completes the setup.exe is automatically executed. You can exit this when it comes up on the first computer. The extracted archive remains after the Installer is exited.

I hope this helps. Let us know how things work out for you.

I tried extracting the file on a couple other computers and got the same error.  But after I downloaded it again on a different computer I was able to extract it to a network drive and install it on my computer from there.  Thanks.

I am glad to hear that you were able to install AutoCAD Civil 3D after downloading and extracting to a network share from an alternative computer.
