Does new server require new client installs?

I'm planning a network installation of Autocad 2006 and AIS10. I noticed that when you create the deployments for client installs, you specify the server name AND the server host id. This tells me that the installations resulting from this deployment store both the server name and host id somehow. Now, what if you replace the license server machine? You can give the new machine the same name as the old one (which we usually do), but the host id will be different. Will this cause a problem for the clients trying to find the new license server? Or, does it only look to the server name to find it? It would seem ridiculous to require all new client installs with a change to the server, but I want to make sure. Thanks.

Search for LICPATH.LIC ( small text file at the root of the program )
Contains two things Server name and host ID.
Edit that file for your new server and copy it on the existing installs.

You can also set an environment variable in the login script. This will
override LICPATH.LIC.

Thanks for the replies. I figured there would be a way to do it.

you can also clone the mac-address of your old server to the new one 😉 FlexLM will work if you do that.
