Default drawing path

How do you configure Autocad to look for drawings and x-refs on a
network drive (default). It does not remember to look in the same
directory when returning after closing. I've tried some path changes in
the options/files tab, but with no success.

I need some specific help.

You might try right-clicking your startup icon, go into properties, shortcut
tab, and modify your "start in" setting.
