I have and older version of Maechanical Desktop. (release 4) We are a small company (8 empolyees) We use autoCAD maybe a couple times a year. Currently it is running on an old windows 98 machine. I recently got a new laptop and was aslo told about running older programs in windows 7 My new machine is Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I get anerror about it being uncompatable because of the 64 bit thing. Is there a way to make it load? Like I said we are small and cannot really justify an upgrade with the amount we use it.

No, Windows 7 does not offer any support for 16-bit applications. You might have luck using the Windows XP Virtual Console from Microsoft.

Yep that is exactly what I ended up doing. Windows XP mode and install under that. All up and running great. Thanks Jason

Hi, another question about MDT2009 and Inventor 2011 this time. How can we activate it. My client asked Autodesk activation service and they tell them that he can't activate with an Inventor 2011 key. The fact is that this customer precisely chose Inventor in order to keep its old design and migrate them to Inventor 2011. It's working (I know this because on my computer I activated MDT 2009 a long time ago and I can still migrate datas to Inventor 2011), but for new users it seems impossible. How can he activate his licence legally ?

He will need to contact Autodesk for a prior use license for MDT 2009 under Subscription.

Hi Daniel,

What sort of install fail are you getting? MDT 2009 is not compatible to run on Windows 7 per the system requirements. Have you tried in XP / Compatibility mode?

yes I already try the xp compatibility mode and also the vista compatibility in vain, the error happens in the end while installing the mechanical desktop, on the log file generated i found this: Install???
