Can't find license with FLEXlm server

I'm trying to upgrade from MDT50 to MDT60. I installed MDT60 on a Novell
server, set up for client deployment.

I install the license server on a NT40SP6 machine. The license server for
MDT50 runs on this machine. It also runs the FlEXlm license for
DesignSpace. It is also used as a workstation running MDT50.

I installed MDT60, from the network setup, to a new machine running W2K.
When I started MDT60 a dialog box came up and I had to give it the machine
name to find the license server. After a short period it came back and said
it couldn't find the license, then exited.

After reading the information in this discussion group I look in the
Licpath.lic file. After the machine name, it had the serial number of our
copy of MDT50. Based on what I'd seem in this discussion group, I changed
the serial number to the nic address of the license server.

I started MDT60 again and it just hung. When I went to shut it down with
the task manager I noticed that MDT60 was running and AutoCad 2002 was not
responding.

Could someone running MDT help me out and look at there license file and see
if they have a separate increment line for Autocad 2002 as well as MDT.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lonnie -
I don't have mdt so I don't know how much help I'm going to be here, but...

The licepath.lic file (the one in the same folder as acad.exe, on the client machine)
should read something like this.

SERVER MYSERVER 116115b2d23a
USE_SERVER

Where 116115b2d23a is the ethernet address of the server running the flexlm services.

From your post I think you already new that, but I just wanted to make sure.

Can you use the lmtools.exe on the flexlm server to check and make sure that the licenses
are available? How about the debug.log, does it indicate that the mdt licenses are working
properly?

As far as I know all of the vertical applications do NOT require a base acad2k2 license to
run (note that I said I don't have mdt). The only "exceptions" that I know of are the new
BSx products which run as an application on top of architectural desktop "base" licenses
(powerpack may be similar with mdt, but I haven't a clue).

Hi,

MDT60 does not need a separate increment for AutoCAD 2002. Something else is
wrong here. Check that the licpath.lic file ethernet address is the same
that is in the license file on the server! Also you can try overriding the
Ethernet address and make MDT look for the license just using the host name.
This is done by adding the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE with a value
corresponding to the Host name of the server running the Autodesk License
Manager.

Also check with LMTOOLS that the service is actually running. You can run
LMTOOLS.EXE from the workstation where you are having the problems. Start it
and set it to use services. Then go to the Server Status tab and press
Perform Status Enquiry. The result should look something like this:
