Hi, new to these forums but was wondering if anyone could give me a hand.  Im trying to install Inventor 2012 student onto my my computer, I have the 32bit on a laptop but got a better computer and downloaded the 64 bit.  It seems to be failing on installation everytime.  The computers new and pretty good so dont understand whats wrong, or how to fix it?

Yes, it is failing on the prerequisite installer:

 Install    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable (x86)    Failed    Installation aborted, Result=1603

Your product is failing to install because the prerequiste program required by the installer is newer than the version being installed. Please uninstall the prerequisite program causing the issue and run your installer again.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I had viewed that post and gave that a try. I viewed my control panel and i had Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable, Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable.  I deleted 2008 and 2010, although computer tended to freeze whilst doing this. Afterwards I tried again, but still had the same problem? After It failed to install i checked the Control Panel again and the 2008 one was back. I deleted and tried again, same problem.  I tends to freeze trying to install the 2008 Redistributable, seeming to load for an hour then tell me it cant install.  Ive tried to install manually, downloading the redistributable from the Microsoft Website, doesnt make a difference though.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, that's rough.  Try one of the cleanup tools here and see if you can get it to uninstall cleanly.  Then try again.

Hi again, I downloaded that programme and removed the 2008 redistributable again, tried to install but still failing for the same reason. This is the log file:

Control Panel shows 2008 has been removed though.

I still have the 2005 redistributables installed, should these be removed too?  There are other profiles on the computer, would I have to delete the redistributables from them too?  I would have thought that removing them from my profile would remvoe them on all profiles? I have an admin profile, but there is another admin profile on the computer too.

No, it's a system wide program.  You might see about installing it separately direct from Microsoft.  If that doesn't work, you might have to do the "modify the system.ini file" method.

Im starting to think my system just cant run this programme now? Its starting to drive me mad since this new computer is so much better than the one I currently have inventor running on.

Something else I had noticed, when installing the Redistributables manually, It never fully installs, getting to the end and freezing, then sometimes showing up in the control panel part as redistributable 2008 3.7645 or some numbers along those lines. Then it does the same freeze with the uninstall. When you close the programme using task manager as it wont close, then try to install again it says it is currently trying to install.

I hinestly dont know enough about programmes to get my head around this problem!

If the prerequisites are not installing on your computer, then you may not be left with much choice but to format and start over with a fresh OS install.
