Autocad R14 running in Windows2000

How do we setup Autocad R14 to run as a "user
level access" instead of "administrator level
access" in Windows 2000?
When we set up as a "user" and try to run
Autocad, we get the error:
"Program is not set up properly. Please
setup program."
Please reply.

1. I'm not sure you can.
2. R14 is no longer supported officially, can you possibly upgrade to 2004,
which does allow this sort of permissions setup?

Try giving them Power User rights instead of User
rights.

Hello,

R14 is going to need to write to HKLM as well as to
the installation folder.  As a user on Windows 2000 and XP (NTFS) Program
Files is READ ONLY and so is HKLM.  So you need to be able to write to
these locations for it to work.  Power User on the local machine is one way
or by creating registry policy to open up all the keys.  Now the best bet
is just to upgrade to AutoCAD 2004, we did all the work to move out of HKLM and
to move all the customizable files out of the installation location so that you
can run from a read only folder.

Hope this helps.

Go to sysinternals.com
Get filemon.exe and regmon.exe.

Run them each seperately.
Run AutoCAD until you get your error.

Look at the logs and find the access denied errors.

Edit just those permissions on every machine.

We do not give anyone administrative rights and have no problems at all with
any software by using this approach.
We run a script after installation to make all of the registry and folder
changes for us.

The machine is technically less secure, but only by the amount required by
the software.
