Autocad 2000i/Windows 2000/Novell

I just got a machine with Windows 2000 (SP1) installed on it. I installed
a Novell client (4.8), and then installed Autocad 2000i and Lightscape. If
I am not logged on to the network, everything works fine. If I log onto the
network, when I try to open a file, my machine hangs when I click on the
'Look in' drop down and I have to end the task. With Lightscape, when I try
to open a file the same way, the whole application just diasppears. All
other applications work flawlessly. Has anyone else had this problem?

There is *something* going on with file/directory access from Windows
applications when Novell volumes are involved. We have an application
that works fine in a pure Windows networking environment but dies when a
Novell volume is accessed. We finally had to put the statement "Novell
Networks not supported" in the compatibility section of our website.
Coincidentally a blightd@pwgsc.gc.ca at your organization just asked
about that in the products discussion group.

So while I'm sorry your having problems, I'm glad to know its not just
me. If you find an answer please let me know, it could be the key to my
problem as well.

What version of NW?
In the NW client Protocol Preferences tab:
What protocols are shown?
What is the Preferred Protocol?

If the preferred protocol is TCP and you have NWLink IPX/SPX transport
loaded on the workstation, try changing the preferred protocol to IPX.

I was just up on the Novell site and they are having lots of problems with
4.8 and Windows 2000. Take a look at there News Groups. They have some
tech docs as well that point to some patches that may help.

Take care.

Another reply pointed me to the Novell discussion site. There is a patch
available from Novell, called 242360.exe. I downloaded it and applied it, and now
all my troubles are gone (for now).

I have tried both settings with the same results. I was directed to the
Novell site, and found that they have a patch called 242360.exe, which
fixes the problem of an application quitting when selecting File/Open. I
have just applied the patch this morning and everything works great (for
now). Thanks for your help.

I was just on the Novell site and downloaded a patch called 242360.exe. When I
installed it, my problem went away. Hopefully I won't have to make weekly
visits to the Novell site. Thanks for your help.
