AutoCad 2013 installation repeadetly failing - please help!

Hello Everyone,

I've been browsing the forum for a few weeks now trying to figure this out with no luck.

I have a workstation that simply will not install AutoCad 2013 - I've tried to do it via Building Design Suite, and just from an install file for CAD itself.

I've tried as admin, run as admin, disabling antivirus, etc etc.

I'm completely stumped at this point, and this is pretty urgent, so please help, and thank you in advance!!!

Do you have any other AutoCAD 2013 versions installed such as AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD Structual detailing? If so, this may be your issue

yes, this engineer primarily uses AutoCad MEP 2013 - I hope I don't have to uninstall it and wipe out his settings!

Just to refresh my memory - Is that version part of the Building Design Suite Premium 2013 as well?

Yes MEP is part of that suite. You hopefully won't have to remove the whole software but even if you do that won't wipe out the user settings. First go into the programs and features control panel and click "View Installed Updates" and uninstall the Service pack for AutoCAD MEP 2013 and any other 2013 AutoCADs in that if it has AutoCAD MEP 2013 SP2 and you uninstall that it may roll back to AutoCAD MEP 2013 SP 1.1 and you will want to remove that too. If you don't see the Service packs in the list they were probably merged in with the initial install so you will need to uninstall the whole AutoCAD product.

Once all AutoCAD 2013 versions you need are installed it's safe to re-install the service packs.

There were no service packs in the update list.  I removed autodesk sync, and installation still failed at step 7 out of 8.  Here is the latest log file, with the same Directx error at the end.  Any other advice?

It's not failing at directX it's failing at AutoCAD

The Direct X error is related to failing to roll it back which is expected if you already had directx installer prior to installing AutoCAD. If you didn't find any other AutoCAD versions installed I would probably need to see the detailed install log from the AutoCAD install to tell why it failed. The logs will be generated in the TEMP directory which can be accessed by typing '%temp%' in the START > RUN. Please locate the log which will have a naming convention of "AutoCAD 2014 Install.log" and attach it to this thread. You may need to zip the file first to make it small enough.

Forgive me if I missed it: if the user has and is using MEP 2013, why do they also need AutoCAD 2013? MEP 2013 has an "as AutoCAD" profile that can be run which is identical to R2013.
