Will the educational version of AutoCAD run on Windows 8? Microsoft says it's compatible but some people have said it doesn't work. Also wondering about the educational version of Revit.

I looked through the questions and answers but did not see a definite answer if the educational version of AutoCAD 2013 and Revit will install and work in Windows 8. Sounds like some people are experiencing problems with it. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions. I have a 64 bit machine. Seems to be working for some but not for others. Wonder why?

Does Autodesk plan to release an update sometime soon that will work with Windows 8 (for Autocad and Revit)?

kmfinchpdx,
Hello. AutoCAD is not a supported product for Windows 8 at this point- which means it has not been thoroughly tested. It could very well work, but we have not tested it.
Please note that the educational version is the same program as the regular version, it just has an educational license and should watermark files. As for an update- no specific update for any of our 2013 products to offer Windows 8 support has been released or announced at this time.

Anybody who knows what updates will be released when are bound by non-disclosure agreements, so you won't find a conclusive answer. Pure speculation: based on past releases, programming knowledge, prior release timings, etc. I would say you will see the next release come out before any update to 2013 products that will "guarantee" compatibility with the new OS. There may not even be a compatibility release, although I'm reasonably confident the higher-ups at AutoDesk have had a look at the work required vs. the potential benefits rather than simply saying "No".

I'm a bit puzzled as to why AutoCAD 2013 seems to work in Windows 8 for some users and not for others. Same with Revit. Seems like in years past the launch date for the next year's AutoCAD version is sometime during the summer? Maybe Autodesk should put out a beta version of AutoCAD 2013 for Windows 8. I'm no programmer but Windows 8 seems like a major overhaul from any previous version. Of course if Windows 8 is where the PC world is headed Autodesk would probably make more money by putting out a compatible version ASAP? Not sure, just some thoughts.

Is there a chance that I can still use my AutoCAD 2012 in the future when I upgrade to the windows 8 os?

Possibly. The strange thing is that Microsoft claims on it's Windows 8 site that AutoCAD 2012 is compatible. Evidently it is for some but not for others.
