AutoCAD 2011 LT Installation failure on XP

I have tried for 3 days now to install AutoCAD 2011 LT on my stand-alone PC running WindowsXP.  The installion fails when it goes to install the Language Pack. Everything else installs successfull but when it gets to the LP it failures and ROLLS everything back!

I have tried everyhing I could find about performig a good install...

- Removng all Autodesk products - deleting all folders that uninstall didn't  remove, removing the registry items.

- Unistalled all the 2.0, 3.0 & 3.5 .NET Framework items from the Add&Remove

- Looked to remove any additional languages I might have had in Regional Settings (there wasn't any)

- plus quite a few other bits of software removals

The error that shows up in the install dialog only says to see the "AutoCad 2011Setup Log" in the user setting. In refering to the Setup Log in the %temp% folder it says that the "AutoCAD LT 2011 Language Pack  Failed  Installation aborted, Result=1638.

The "AutoCAD Install.log" goes further to say that Language Pack version that it is trying to install is 18.1.49.0 . The 1638 error (a MS error code) say "Another version of the product is already installed. Installation cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".

The interesting thing is that I had downloaded AutoCAD 2011LT from autodesk as a Trial about 6 weeks ago and it loaded fine and I used it for the 30 days and then uninstalled it. I have now bought a retail box and this is what won't install. I have done all I can think of to remove any remenite of that trail version as well as Design Review, Sketchbook Pro and AutoCAD FreeStyle I had loaded. All of which were loaded before I even loaded the trial of LT.

There does'nt appear to be anything that even come close to this problem on the community forums EXCEPT one indivdual that had the same error back last month loading AutoCAD 2010. But there was no solution even suggested.

I hope someone can HELP me with this.

I'd like to use the product!!

Can you upload your install log to this thread? I’d like to look at it.

Are there any blank entries on the Add and Remove Programs list?

Douglas,

Thanks for the response

I attached both of the Install logs

and No I don't have any blanks in the Add & Remove

What I do have is a number of enties in the Registry that are related to {5783F2D7-9009-0409-1002-0060B0CE6BBA}

that is called out in the install log at the point of failure

This Key is related to this Key [7D2F387590099040012000060BECB6AB] in the Registry

all of which have some tie to Autodesk data and in some cases the Language Pack specifically

.

I was in the process of exporting these 2 main Keys and Deleteing them in order to try the install then.

What do you think?

Thanks for the help

There is another 'AutoCAD LT 2011 Install.log' (8.39MB) that I didn't include due to the Post size limit.

It is best not to edit the registry. I see too many customers delete names, paths, and values from REG_SZ and REG_DWORD entries in the Windows Registry, even deleting the REG_SZ or REG_DWORD. This leaves behind the Windows Key that may or may not have been what the customer needed or wanted to delete. The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is the best way to remove left behind, stubborn or damages entries; especially when an application will not uninstall. The Revo Uninstaller is another popular alternative.

It is good that you are exporting keys that you are deleting or modifying. From the information I see in this circumstance editing the Registry may be necessary:

1. If either of these two Keys exists export them by right clicking on them in the left pane of the Registry Editor then choose to export them. Export them to the desktop, a temporary folder, or somewhere else that is convenient. If you get a successful reinstall you will be deleting the Registry Export.

   - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D2F387590099040102000060BECB6AB

   - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D2F387590099040102000060BECB6AB

2. Delete these two keys after their export.

3. Run the AutoCAD LT 2011 installer.

4. If successful delete the 2 Registry export files created in step 1.

Let us know how things work out.

Douglas,

The 2 Keys you reference are the same ones, unless I can't see the difference.

With that said, these are the keys I currently have found to ideally delete:

- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D2F387590099040012000060BECB6AB]

- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{5783F2D7-9009-0409-1002-0060B0CE6BBA}]

- [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\7D2F387590099040012000060BECB6AB]

- [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\7D2F387590099040012000060BECB6AB]

There are also some 500 records that have 7D2F387590099040012000060BECB6AB as a named REG_SZ type under Keys like this one:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\F9E7687B41E2FB34FA22F76993974B4C

Should I not care about these?

Do you think the 4 at the top are OK to delete or should I not do the HKCR keys?

If you could give me a little assurance before I do it, I'd appreciate it.

Also, in researching this problem I also saw suggestions to using the "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" but found that MS had removed it from their downloads due to problems with it removing too much???

I'll wait for your response and then give it a try.

Thanks

You only need to be concerned about the two keys I provided. If you were trying to really clean out AutoCAD LT 2010 and were not intent on Reinstalling it I’d suggest using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (or Removing these keys), then a reinstall, followed by Technical Solution TS45252 to uninstall.

This solution helped me to resolve a similar problem with AutoCAD 2010, so many thanks. The appropriate reg keys to back up and delete are;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D2F387510089040002000060BECB6AB

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D2F387510089040012000060BECB6AB
