AutoCAD 2000 ADLM and program files on NT4 Server with clients running Win200

I have installed AutoCAD 2000 program files and the license manager on a Win
NT 4 server and I' m planning to install Win 2000 pro on the clients
launching AutoCAD from the server (network deployement ?): someone know if
there are known problems?

Thank you very much.

Pierpaolo.

Are you planning thin clients (where the application actually runs on the
server)? IF you are, I'd like to know why - just out of curiosity.

Pierpaolo -
Yes, there is a problem running the network version of autocad 2000 on w2k machines. It
involves the differences in the way previous versions of win use tcp/ip and acquire
licenses from the server.
There is a file, in the same folder as the acad.exe called adesksys.dll. The file that
ships with autocad 2000 will not work with w2k. You can get a new version of the
adesksys.dll file at ftp://adeskftp.autodesk.com/prodsupp/autocad2000/patches/adesksys.dll
(watch for wrapping in the url). You will need to replace the adesksys.dll file that is
installed with the new one downloaded from the link above.

Also - If you plan to run with standard user rights on w2k there are some issues that you
need to know about. Plain user rights are not adequate to run autocad 2000 correctly. You
need to have at least power user rights or refer to the tech doc located
http://support.autodesk.com/knowledgebase/html/336082.htm (watch for wrapping again).

That is all that I can think of right now. Let us know if you have problems.

I know the problem about adesksys.dll but in my situation (acad.exe running
from the server) that file is installed, with the rest of the executables,
on the NT 4 Server (I have no acad.exe and adesksys.dll on the clients) and
in the patch instructions is told to copy it only on the machines running
Windows 2000.

Thank you very much.
