Activate Inventor serial number

I am a student and I would like to get a free copy of Inventor. But when I went to the site and downloaded the software and entered the number AutoDesk emailed me, it said it was not a valid product key. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Your thread title says Activate and Serial Number,

your description says Product Key.

 

These are 3 different codes.

1. Product Key is same for everyone (for particular product) and listed under your profile.

2. Serial Number is unique to you and listed under your profile.

3. Activation Code is generated automatically when you enter 1 & 2 at time of Activation.

 

So, are you entering 1 & 2 in correct blanks?

I don't understand why it wont let me activate as I entered in the serial number autodesk gave me.

I took the codes and put them in the right spot, but it told me invallid number.

Upon reply please include your EDU Community site User ID and an authorization to reset the password in case I need to log in and troubleshoot further.
