APPSETUP.INF file is empty

New network installation: Novell 5.0 network, with NDS. Win2K servers are also on WAN. License manager running properly on Win2K Server. Client files installed on Netware server. Access rights to client files for all users. WAN has IPX/SPX and IP running Clients can ping to Win2K server where license files are.

Administrator (full access) installs the client files from a Win2K comptuer to a Netware 5.0 server. All preliminary screens during install setup properly (license server name, ethernet address, silent install etc). Files are installed to the Netware server by the network setup program.

But, the appsetup.inf file is empty. Users run the setup program, and don't get a silent install. They get asked for serial numbers, etc.

What is causing the appsetup.inf file to be empty?

THanks...Rick...

Why is it empty??? I have no idea.

To fix it, you'll need to re-run the netsetup.
1. Delete the existing deployment.
2. Run setup.exe from the netsetup folder, specify the path...

Next check the appsetup.inf file to make sure that it worked. I assume that
since you are running NDS, that you are using the netware client? I've seen
many people who have problems with the "latest" (and I don't keep up with
them, so I'm not even sure what it is) version of the netware client, so
that could be part of the problem. If the appsetup.inf is empty after you
run the netsetup, try to find some space on one of the w2k servers to try a
deployment. If that doesn't work, please post back.

If you do get the appsetup.inf to show up correctly you might want to run a
quick backup of the deployment folder, so that if one of the clients happens
to delete something, you can just restore from tape (or whatever) and not
have to re-create the deployment.

1) I have tried deleting the deployment folder/subfolders, then reinstalling with SETUP (out of the network folder from the CD). Several times, in fact. Have even specified a new (main) folder name. The APPSETUP.INF file, although created, shows as empty.

2) - Have tried it with the 4.83 client (latest); APPSETUP.INF is created but empty
- So I tried another Win2K machine, this one has the 4.80 Netware client, and the APPSETUP.INF file is created and normal-looking.

So the problem may be the Netware client version (4.83 doesn't work, 4.80 does work). I did notice that a reinstall using the 4.83 client, much of the info on the setup screens was already there (serial #, etc). These settings are stored someone on the workstations' registry? Perhaps they need to be cleared, especially if a different type of install is done (different CLIENT server)?

3) This was all done with the Autodesk 2002 program.

Interesting questions in #2, above..

Yes, those settings are stored in the local registry of the system that
created the image (not on the other machines). Here is where you will find
the settings in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Network Setup Wizard\AutoCAD

As for your other question about them needing to be cleared I don't know.

Do you have installed the patch for this client? Check out this
document:
http://support.novell.com/servlet/tidfinder/2961866
I see the same problem with MDT6 in the office of one of our costumers
with the 4.83 client without the patch.
