ADLM server swapping...

Hi,

I am new to ADLM concepts.

We plan to buy few AutoCAD licences. We havent yet made our mind to go for
individual seats or floating licence (ADLM).

I am quite afraid that we cant change the ADLM server so easily, just by
doing some kind of license exporting operation to another new ADLM server
and drop the old one. Am i right?

If i am not clear in the above question consider this example:

there are two Windows2000 servers Server A and Server B.

Both server have ADLM installed on them. But ONLY ONE of them, say server A
is acting as 'active' ADLM server issuing license to clients. for some
reason i have to shutdown server A and do some maintenance tasks, which
might run into few hours or even days. Till then i need my server B to act
as 'active' ADLM server. Once this maintenance task is over server A will
take over. Server B might be a disposable/temporary machine and hence might
not have the same hardware/software setting every time.

Is there anyway i can just export the settings from server A to B so that
seamless licenses can be issued?

thanx in advance for any of your efforts/time spent in this regard...
Regards,
Narayanan

There are several ways to handle this with AutoCAD 2004. The simplest is
probably the "redundant" server model, where three servers together handle
all of the licenses. Any one server can go down, or be taken down, without
affecting clients.

There's more info in the networking "white papers", available here:
