ADLM & Server Upgrade

We are running ADLM (ACAD 2000 clients) on an NT4 server and will be reloading the server with Windows 2000 Server. Will this product run on Windows 2000 and if so do I need to contact AutoDesk support to transfer the license? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes to both. You'll need to have the Mac Address handy when you call Adesk,
so go ahead and install the ADLM now, and get the info from LMtools ready to
go.

Good luck, it really is as simple as it sounds.

James,

This person is running AutoCAD 2000. The advice you offer is valid for
AutoCAD 2002 but not AutoCAD 2000.

As I understand the original posting the current server is running NT4 and
that same server is scheduled to be upgrades to Windows 2000. If this is
the case, the answer is that the current authorization may become invalid.

Prior to upgrading your operating system save your license file(s) (for
AutoCAD 2000 it is 150.lic) somewhere it will not be destroyed or lost in
the upgrade process. Next, run AdLM Admin to display your current server
code and record it.

After you finish installing W2K, install AdLM and run AdLM Admin and compare
the server code displayed to the one you recorded above. If there was no
change you can restore the old license file and go. If the server code
changed you will need to reauthorize.

D'oh! Good catch. I've gotten so used to the FlexLM side, I'd forgotten to
even look. Thanks, Jerry.

BTW, that was a great Q&A at AU this year!

I've fallen into the 'version funnel' a few time myself.

Glad you like the session.

Thanks for all of the advice you offer on this forum!

Is your advise the same if I upgrade a Novell server? Sometime this month I will be upgrading a Novell Netware 4.11 server to a 6.0, and this server runs our ADLM for the LDD2 workstations.

My advice on Netware 6 is to proceeded with
caution.  Autodesk never tested the Élan based AdLM running on Netware
6.  So, I would not implement this upgrade without a contingency plan
should AdLM not work properly after the upgrade.  Such a plan may be moving
the license manager to another Netware server in your company that is still
running a supported version of Netware or moving the license manager to a
Windows system.  Any of these contingency plans would likely involve
administrator 'touches' to the workstation and/or user login
scripts.

What if instead of upgrading the server you are replacing the whole server that has ADLM on it? What is the proper procedure?

Thanks
