ADLM & Server IP address

If I change the IP address of a server running ADLM, do I have to
re-authorize all of the products?

Thanks,

Brian Heinack

Only if the server Authorization code changes. Before you change the IP
address write down the server auth code. Then change the IP address (make
sure you are using a static IP address and not one assigned by a DHCP
server). Now check the server auth code. If it is the same, then you are
"in like Flynn" (or so the saying goes). If it changes then you will have
to re-authorize all your licenses.

One piece of advice, do this when nobody is using AutoCAD, late at night,
early in the morning, on the weekend. Then call the authorization center
ASAP if the server code changed .

As far as I know and I did it so it seems to be right , the server code is
the only # required to authorize with so if it is the same physical server
... no biggy

As I understand it the address is not a problem but
if you update windows (on nt change service pack) or
change network cards the adlm will need to be reauthorized.
Do not Make changes when you can not call autodesk.
We lost an office in 1999 for a week before new years
when we updated nt service pack for 2000. Autodesk offices were on holiday.

The ADLM by default uses the CPUID, MAC address and the serial number as
input to an algorithm to calculate the server code. So if you change
machines (or the the NIC), you'll typically generate a different server
code.

The static IP number issue should be observed so that the LMHOSTS doesn't
need changing. If your server name changes (assuming you're keeping the old
one, therefore new IP), then your users will experience problems connecting
to the new server if their ACADSERVER variable isn't rerouted to the new
name.

Hope that helps,
Mark
