ACD2000: Using License Server Remotely?

I am trying to consolidate my company ACAD2000 Licenses down to a single server that can be loacted at the main office. Currently, each branch has it's own server. I run a VPN with my Win NT 4.0 network in which all drives are shared (ie: the branch office is able to see my license server). Is it possible to use the main license server to serve my remote offices? If so, is there anything that I need to change on my current server before attempting a remote install?

Any help would be greatly apprtecaited!

Scott,

Once the network license policy change becomes
effective on July 1st you can legally license remotely, however I cannot say if
it will work successfully over VPN as it's not been tested.

Hi,

I tried using VPN to get R2002 licenses (just to
test Simon, not for production!). It works as long as your nameresolution works
thorugh the VPN channel. You may have to work on you hosts file and include both
ends of the channel so that pinging works with hostname both ways. Also beware
that you have the necessary port open for the Elan license server (UPD 1422) if
you're going through a firewall.

PS as I said I tried it with the 2002 FlexLM, might
be different with the R2000 Elan manager...

Thank you so much for the reply. Regarding the July1 issue, I had an e-mail from our reseller regarding that and had forgotten about it.

As for name resolution, I am running NAT and I believe that I can ping based on the server names each way. I will have to check on that one. Is there an easy way to check to see if the proper port is open to allow access?

Thanks-
Scott
