ACAD R14 Corrupt files - AppleShare IP

Hello Everyone

Well I just started on as system admin., and I am trying to fix a lot of
problems. We have about 40 Auto Cad R14.01 (with SMB Patch) users
running
Windows NT SP6a with 128 MB of ram, swap file set to 512 MB on the D
drive. NT is installed on the C Drive. Users are using DLINK 10/100
530TX/530TX+ NICs. The server is a Macintosh G3 running Appleshare IP
v6.3 w/ MacOS 9.0.4 which support SMB clients. What happens to a few
users is that all of the .bak files and the dwg file they are currently
working on become corrupted.
error messages include:

!smio, unhandled access violation exception, and cpio

It doesn't happen to a lot of people just to one project.

Our network consists of:
- Mac G3 Server w MacOS 9.0.4 + ASIP v6.3
- 4 x 24 port 10/100 switches

I have one person with a bad network driver/card, and removed them from
the network. It is possible that they may have been corrupting files on
the file server. I know they are issues with ASIP v6.3 and SMB clients.

Thanks

Paul,

I have no specific knowledge about Apple networking, however I have seen my
share of corruption problems caused by defective NICs and/or NIC drivers.
So, you may be on the correct path.
If the problem continues, you may want to run recover on your block
libraries and base drawings to make sure that they have not become corrupt
and causing latent problems.
If problems persist, do the recovery clean up process again and try storing
files on a Windows system. If the problem goes away going to the Windows
system, you should escalate this to your Apple networking support source.

Good Luck

Paul,

One more thing, make sure that SP6 is reapplied any time new drivers or
network software is updated! DO NOT assume that this was done when you fire
up a brand new system out of the box, I come across many problems caused by
stale factory SP applications! Boot a new machine, apply the service pack,
then proceed, it can save you some grief.
