3ds Max error when opening the program

i just downloaded and installed 3ds max 2010.  i had no problems dowloading or installing it but when i try to open the program to use it i keep getting a error message that syas

A software problem has caused 3ds Max to close unexpectedly

how do i solve this problem. i need this program for a class i'm taking.

can someone please help me?

A couple of places to start with troubleshooting this are:

1. Disable the Antivirus and start Max again. If the error does not happen add Max to the exceptions list for the antivirus.

It may also be another system utility or other application that is causing this. If you have a Standalone license you can reboot with MSCONFIG by following the steps in this Technical Solution. If the problem goes away some application, service, driver, or even a virus may be the cause.

2. Troubleshoot .NET with the .NET Framework Setup Verification and .NET Framework Cleanup Tools.

3. Update your display adapter or pointer device drivers.

I got the same error when launching 3ds Max 2014 for students .The solution for me was to downgrade nvidia driver to an older version .
