Am I able to transfer files in the student verison of 3d max from my computer to my school class that uses  their own autodesk programs?

You sure can Joe, as both licenses should be educational.

The big issue in opening drawings / projects made in a student version would be when do so with a commercial license, as it will revert the commercial license over to a student one.
