Hi folks,
I have a 3ds Max student licence but I'm still running in trial mode until I figure out the best way to set it up. I did my first test render last night and was delighted with the result but it took ages. I'd like to enslave the extra computers I have here into a render farm.
I notice the installer has both 32 and 64 bit selected by default. My main PC is Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Is there any need for me to install the 32 bit verions?
One of my farm PCs will be my server that is running Windows 2008 Server. Will that machine be happy to be a render slave?
I will only be using the design features of 3ds on my main workstation. Do I need to configure my main workstation as Network to support render slaves?
Thanks,
Sean
When considering the render farm you are trying to set up you will want both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of 3ds Max installed on your primary workstation. The 3ds Max support technicians I spoke with indicated that both the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 boxes will work well for the render farm. You will not need to change to a Network license for this.
Let us know how this render farm works out.
Will do! Thanks. I've requested a DVD per your suggestion in the other thread. I'll let you know how it all goes.
