Trying to return a license early
    I get the error
Your license cannot be returned contact your system administrator
    bla bla bla

How do I kill the license on the laptop?
I got plenty of licenses on the server but I want to kill the desktop
    license.

the user will be out of the office on the day the borrow period ends
and will not be able to use autocad
Thats why we want to return it early and check out a new license

Is there a chance that you are trying to return the license using a
different network interface than the one that was used to borrow it?

For example, maybe you were in a docking station when it was borrowed, and
    now you are not?

If so, maybe try using the same interface that was used to borrow the
    license.

If you're unable to resolve this, you could log the user in as a
different (local?) user on the laptop, and checking out a new license
    under that userid.

You'd have to migrate their application settings, but apart from that it
    should work.

    Normally I would agree
This laptop has a wifi connection.
I have tried releasing the license on both a LAN and the wireless but
    neither worked

I'd rather not have to kill the windows profile
There has to be a way to kill the license on the autocad?
Is the license in the registry or a .lic file?

You don't have to nuke the user's profile (actually, this won't work
anyway; I believe the license is tied to userid+ip), just set them up
with a temporary second login for this trip. When they get back, the
initial license will have expired and they can go back to using their
    original login/profile.

Even if you kill it on the client, I doubt that you'll be able to check
out another license from that login on the same computer.

If I setup a username on that computer then they are going to have to use 2
different user accounts and remember the username/passwords
plus their settings (windows profile) and files will be different on each
session. Again I just want to kill the license and check out a new one.

Try removing the information contained in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm Licence Manager\Borrow key keep the Default value and delete the other keys.
    It worked for me.
