2000i - Administration rights

Has anyone had the opportunity to install 2000i on NT or higher and had to
deal with Admin rights on the local box. It makes a request for the user to
have Admin rights or Power User rights, which gives the user the ability to
alter registry settings I believe. So if anyone has done this can you tell
what your resolve was.

Yes, it does. It is because the installation tool (MSI) is trying to write
to HKLM registry hive. The same is true with Win2k. If you're unwilling to
allow your users such rights, use the RUNAS command to execute the
installations, or buy a third-party product to push out the installs on a
schedule or batch with Admin rights. MS SMS 2.0 works for this just fine,
as do other products like UniCenter, Tivoli and others.

I set up a bat file, special user and a logon script for that user. The bat
file runs the install, copies needed customized info and reboots the
machine. The user has workstation admin rights, when logged in,
automatically starts the bat file and reboots the machine when done. If the
workstation already has AutoCAD on it, the machine reboots. The main
problem with this is that not all parts of my install were silent. The
users needed to respond at certain points so I created a document to help
them out. This meathod is a little crude, but quite effective. I was able
to get 100+ workstations in 10 offices loaded with A2Ki, LDDr2i, Civil, and
Survey.
