Apologies for reviving a relatively old thread, it's still pretty high up on Google.
I had this problem for a long time, renaming the files did not help. However, apparently there is a 'FLEXnet Licensing Service' in services(.msc). In my case this was turned off and set to disabled, starting this service fixed it for me.
If increasing network bandwidth is not an option, you can increase the amount of time the program waits for a response from the license manager by configuring an environment variable at the client workstation. Follow these steps:
Right-click My Computer. Click Properties.
(for Vista and Windows 7, click the "Advanced system settings" link.)
In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
In the Environment Variables dialog box, under System Variables, click New.
In the New User Variable dialog box, enter FLEXLM_TIMEOUT for the name and 10000000 for the value.
Click OK to close each dialog box.
Launch the Autodesk application.
If you are able to obtain a license, the value of 1000000 microseconds (1 second) is sufficient. If you still cannot obtain a license, repeat the procedure; increasing the value in 1000000 microsecond increments until you are able to obtain a license from the license server.
Can anyone please help? Every time I try to open 3ds Max I get the message window, "The software license check nas failed. Error 20." No I have tried looking for this "Casindo..." file and can not find it. By the way I am using Windows 8, 3ds Max 2012 and a student.
Please help
I have the same error message with the trial version of 3d Studio Max 2014. I have a project to get completed by tomorrow so I'm a little frustrated. I was testing the software before I committed to making a purchase decision but now I am really considering other options. I have unistalled the software from my computer and tried to re-install it and am still getting the same message. Any suggestions will be really appreciated.
It is incerible that after 5 years this error still does not have solution. And the worst thing is that the support team has no pilgrim idea that it is. They don't know that answer and only give drowned swipes recommending various solutions that have found some users, which however do not serve for everyone. The development team not to managed to isolate the error and an explanation on it or because occurs. In other words: I am surprised that Autodesk has not been crushed by an avalanche of demands and this shows how companies are doing what it pleases and charge huge prices for programs that do not work.
Hi @Crashsoft and welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Hi,
I've experienced the same issue, and I've resolved it, by starting the Microsoft services Management console, and then, I've found the services called "flexnet licensing service" and "Flexnet licensing service 64".
Be sure you are using this cosnole as Administrator.
cheers
What do you do when you find the files or services you are talking about? Also is the Microsoft Services management Console the Task manager or something else? I'm new to the whole thing so please forgive basic questions.
