We have been disabling user profiles since 3ds Max first started using them (v9 I believe). We do this by changing useUserProfiles=1 to 0 in the InstallSettings.ini file. Is anyone else doing this in 2014?
The problem is that some of the configuration files created in the root directory structure are still inheriting permissions from the user profile. One file in particular (MaxActionItemsOverlay.xml) is causing our network rendering to fail due to it not having the proper permissions in place. I can modify the permissions but as soon as Max is opened and closed the permissions revert back to the user profile.
We have even seen Max crash while starting on random occasions. Resetting the permissions on the Root folder structure fixes the issue.
Just a note to inform you this is already logged as a known issue, under investigation.
No fix date yet determined but thank you for taking the time to report this also.

We are having the exact same issue now that we have started moving to Max2014. Any news to report? It is causing major headaches...
Thanks

Hi David,
Just checked for you and this is still under investigation.
I post any updates here as new info arrives on it.
Best Regards

Our workaround for the time being was to create a script that runs when the computer is restarted. This script copies the permissions from a dummy text file to the MaxActionItemsOverlay.xml file. When a user leaves for the day and restarts their computer the permissions are restored allowing for network rendering overnight.
Thanks. We are going to run a similar script every time our net render app starts
