Errors have occurred while reading this scene... (Maya 2014)

Hi there, I am totally new to Maya and just started up my intro to 3D modeling class this semester. I have version 2014 of Maya, same as the ones in my school's lab. The problem is, since I'm new to all this and a bit of a slow learner, I'd like to take my projects home and tinker with them so I can catch up. The only thing is, everytime I go to open a scene I get an error message saying 'Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss. Please check the Script Editor for details.' All of my files are .mb and open perfectly fine in class. If I try importing my files instead I get a weird glitched up version of my model. Here's what my script editor says is wrong (the **** is just my name i removed):

I'm sure you solved this by now, but it may be the:

The other missing nodes should only really affect rendering (renderman and vray are missing too)

Make sure whatever plugins you use at school you have available at home too.

I get the same thing, but as I last remember doing anything significant, is actually moving faces on different models and intersecting and by passing other geometries. Could this be the nature of illegal characters?

I tried even loading a project with known mental ray bins included, then reopening same 060415.mb, nothing has changed in the MAYA 2014. I last saved and closed the file. Hope you can help.
