Can't tell if these specs will work w/Maya 2013 or 2014...

I just need a machine I can work in Maya on. Won't be running any additional programs, just Maya, not rendering too terribly much. Can someone tell me if this will or won't cut it:

  • Windows 8.1 64
  • AMD Quad-Core A6-6310 Processor + AMD Radeon™ R4 Graphics
  • 17.3-inch diagonal HD+ BrightView WLED-backlit Display (1600x900)
  • 8GB DDR3L System Memory (1 Dimm)
  • 500GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
  • No Additional Office Software
  • Security Software Trial
  • 4-cell 41WHr Lithium-ion Battery
  • SuperMulti DVD burner
  • Standard Keyboard (black)
  • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Dual Digital Microphone (aqua blue)
  • 802.11b/g/n WLAN [1x1]

I'm mostly worried about the CPU...

There's a couple of worries, more so if you are "working" rather than just "learning".  One, is that a discrete video card?  On-processor video is fine for app-games and movies but not so much for technical software.  The hard drive isn't much to see either - 5400 RPM is slow, slow, slow; again, fine for generic stuff which Maya isn't.  If you are limited to a conventional platter drive it should be 7200 RPM at a minimum BUT you should be looking at a decent sized solid state drive instead.

Thanks for the feedback! I've decided to just do a desktop. For the price, I'll get a better system. Now trying to decipher "Intel P4000 graphics." AHHH TECHNICAL!! 🙂
